Fourth straight Knights' win comes at Dominican

The Knights extended their win streak to four games by beating Dominican College, 7-6, in non-conference action on Tuesday.  The two clubs will meet again on Thursday at Queens College.

David Fisher singled, stole second, moved to third on a walk and scored on an error for the Knights first run in a three run first inning. Starting pitcher Wei Chang singled in a run and Steve Varela drew a bases loaded walk to account for QC's other two runs of the frame. Dominican evened the score with a three run rally in the third but the Knights regained the lead in the sixth on a Rob Bernardo RBI single and another bases loaded walk, this time issued to Jeffrey Gomez.

Fisher started another QC rally when he worked out a free pass and stole both second and third with Bernardo at the plate in the eighth inning. After Bernardo walked, Neil Napolitano  delivered a sac fly to right that scored Fisher for the Knights' sixth run. With Gomez at the plate, Bernardo stole second and was picked off of third for the second out but Gomez kept the inning alive by singling up the middle. On the play, Dominican centerfielder Xavier Bonilla committed an error that allowed Gomez to score another insurance run for QC.

The Knights would need that insurance as Dominican answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning off of Chang and Joe Manfre to cut QC's lead to 7-6. Steve Varela came to the rescue, retiring all four batters he faced to pick up his third save of the season.
