McDonald Cops Double-Double on Senior Night vs. NYIT
FLUSHING, N.Y. - Senior forward Khalil McDonald led all players with 18 points, 16 rebounds and three blocked shots Wednesday night at Fitzgerald Gymnasium, as the Queens College men's basketball team came out on the short end of a 60-58 decision at the hands of visiting New York Institute of Technology.
Prior to the game, head coach Kyrk Peponakis and the Knights honored McDonald (Queens Village, N.Y.), Nana Boateng (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Edil Lacayo (Bronx, N.Y.) for their contributions to the program over the last four years. All three student-athletes have played in 100-plus contests for QC, and helped the Knights to the East Coast Conference semifinals round in each of the last two seasons.
McDonald's 16 rebounds are a career-best, and he was aided in the scoring column by freshman forward Nees Nikovic (Brooklyn, N.Y.; 11 pts., three blk.; 5-for-7 FG) and freshman point guard Abe Akanmu (Staten Island, N.Y.; 10 pts., five reb., three asst.).
The Knights wrap up regular-season play Saturday afternoon (Feb. 25), when they travel to Oakdale, N.Y., for a 3 p.m. start at Dowling College.
