FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College men's tennis team started its spring season on the right foot on Friday, picking up an 8-1 home victory over Adelphi University at the QC Tennis Center.
Queens swept doubles action to take command of the match. Roman Laga and Sharvill Nawghre combined for an 8-4 win over Matteo Cannavera and Uladzislau Litvinchuk at No. 1 doubles. Richard Sec and Cosme Jubera cruised to victory at No. 2 doubles, 8-1, while Federico Toscano and Camilo Arias claimed another 8-4 win at third doubles to conclude the sweep.
The Knights picked up five singles wins as well, all two-set victories. Nawghre defeated Cannavera at top singles, 6-4, 6-3, while Sec took down Litvinchuk at second singles, 6-2, 6-3. Gabriel Mendez notched a 6-3, 7-5 victory at third singles over Roey Heymann. Meanwhile, Laga (6-0, 6-1) and Jubera (6-2, 6-0) breezed to victory at fourth and fifth singles, respectively. Adelphi's lone win came at No. 6 singles.
Next up for the Knights will be a trip to Orlando Fla., where they will play six matches in five days. The first match will be against Grand Valley State on Thursday, March 9, at 3 p.m.
