Amy Delmore Tabbed as Queens (N.Y.) College Head Softball Coach

FLUSHING, N.Y. - Queens (N.Y.) College assistant vice president of athletics, China Jude, announced recently the hiring of Amy Delmore, a former National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II All-American, as the Knights' head softball coach.

Delmore takes over a QC squad that did not have any seniors, and advanced to the 2012 East Coast Conference Championships -- its first appearance in the conference tournament in three seasons.

Delmore spent the last three seasons as head softball coach at Manhasset High School in Long Island, after a highly successful three-year stint as assistant softball coach at her alma mater -- Adelphi University. While on the Panthers' sidelines, she helped the team to a cumulative record of 112-48, including NCAA Division II Championships appearances in 2007 and 2008. Delmore worked as a coach at the Pro Pitch Softball Camp from 2004-08, while also aiding aspiring softball players at Adelphi's softball camp from 2002-09.

The Bellerose Manor, N.Y., resident had a standout collegiate career as a second baseman at Adelphi, where she was the 2005 New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (now the East Coast Conference) Player of the Year, en route to being named a NFCA Second-Team All-American. Delmore hit .304 during her illustrious career, including a school record-setting 46 doubles and single-season highs of a .418 batting average and .664 slugging percentage during her All-America campaign. In total, she suited up in 169 contests as a Panther, including 158 starts.

Delmore, who has taught as a physical education instructor at St. Mary's Elementary School (Manhasset, N.Y.) for the last five years, played four years of varsity softball and soccer during her scholastic career at St. Mary's High School -- garnering four team most valuable player awards on head coach Kathy Harrigan's softball squad in the process. She has deep family ties on the diamond, as well; her brother, Billy, played baseball for fellow ECC member Molloy College, while her cousin, Patrick, suited up in the Chicago White Sox farm system.

Delmore graduated from Adelphi with her bachelor's degree in physical education in 2006, and later with a master's degree in health education in 2009.
