ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Sophomore Patriece Ausili found the back of the net four times, but the Queens College women's lacrosse team fell to the Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks, 22-10, on the road in East Coast Conference (ECC) action on Sunday afternoon.
It was Ausili's second four-goal game of the season, adding four draw controls and two caused turnovers as well. Junior Nicole Moniello tallied a season-best four points on two goals and two assists, her third multi-goal game of the season.
After the Redhawks scored first, Ausili tied the game at one with a goal 1:54 into play. 2:21 later, after Roberts Wesleyan took a 2-1 lead, Moniello once again evened the score with a free position goal 4:15 into the opening half.
From there, the Redhawks rattled off five straight goals to take a 7-2 lead just 8:51 in. Ausili then tallied her second goal of the game seconds later to cut the deficit to four on an assist from junior Mary Pat Gibble. After another Redhawk tally, Moniello kept the difference at four (8-4) with her second goal of the half, but Roberts Wesleyan ended the half on a 4-0 run to enter halftime with a 12-4 lead.
Queens surged back with three straight goals to open the second half, as Ausili fired back-to-back goals before sophomore Lauren Gentile scored to bring Queens within five at 12-7. Goals by Gibble, sophomore Margaret Iavarone and Gentile kept the Knights within five (15-10) with 11:34 on the clock, but Roberts Wesleyan ended the game on a 7-0 run to take the 22-10 victory.
Gibble had three points on a goal and two assists, while Gentile had two goals and two ground balls. Cassley Jackowski went off four eight goals and four assists to lead the Redhawks, while Mackenzie Kidder and Johannah Price each added four goals apiece.
The Knights will play their third road game in a row on Wednesday, April 5, at Bridgeport beginning at 4 p.m.
