Huge Second Half Propels Women's Lacrosse to 18-9 Victory over Wilmington Saturday

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Mar. 17, 2018) - Patriece Ausili and Sarah Koehler each scored five goals as the Queens College women's lacrosse team capitalized on a ten-goal second half to knock off Wilmington University by an 18-9 score on Saturday (Mar. 17) at QC Lacrosse Field.

Queens (4-1) jumped out to a four-goal lead on the Wildcats (1-5) as Margaret Iavarone, Mary Pat Gibble and the aforementioned Ausili and Koehler each collected tallies within the first ten minutes of play. Wilmington rallied back into the contest with Lashay Ross scoring three goals in the first half; Ross's last marker brought the visitors within a goal at 7-6 but Gibble scored off a feed from Ausili with five seconds to play as the Knights went into the locker room ahead by an 8-6 margin.

The Knights pulled away in the second half, scoring ten of the first eleven goals in the fray to overwhelm the Wildcats as Ausili bagged four of her five markers in the final thrity minutes of play. Koehler netted a second-half hat trick for QC and Nicole Moniello added a goal and four assists to help the Knights to the nine-goal triumph.

In cage, Jessica Serpe made ten saves to collect her fourth victory of the year. Ausili added four caused turnovers and four draw control victories to her five-goal total. Lauren Gentile led the Knights with six caused turnovers in the win and QC was 17-for-22 on clears for defense. 

The Knights will open up East Coast Conference play with a 1 p.m. showcase against Roberts Wesleyan College at the QC Lacrosse Field.
