Women's XC ties for first at the ECC Championships

The Queens College Women's Cross Country team tied for first place on Sunday at the 2009 ECC Championships, held at C.W. Post College. Both the Knights and NYIT finished with 50 points. QC's Men's team finished fifth.

Three of QC's women's runners placed in the top 10 in their 5K race. Amber Sayer ran a 20:06.60 to finish fourth, Melissa Cuartas (also a member of the soccer team) was right behind her in fifth (20:59.30) and Indira Avila placed eighth in a time of 21:17.00.

The Knights top finisher on the men's side was Max Gazzara, who completed the five mile course in 14th place in a time of 29:11.00. Next were Lev Starikov (24th - 31:00.20), Rakeem Chapman (26th - 31:44.00) and Joseph Miner (27th - 31:45.10).

Greg Welch was named ECC co-Coach of the Year on the women's side.
