ALBANY, N.Y. (Sept. 15, 2018) - The Queens College volleyball team played a competitive third set and hit well against Saint Rose, but the Golden Knights were victorious in a three-set sweep of the visiting Knights on Saturday (Sept. 15) at Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium in Albany.

Saint Rose 3, Queens (NY) 0: 25-10, 25-17, 25-23

Leeks Hollis led Queens (0-9) with six kills, Briana Green added five kills, two service aces and two total blocks and Lauren Kehoe scored four kills and six digs for the Knights. After falling in the opening set by a 25-10 margin, QC took a 4-1 lead in the second frame thanks to a Mitchell service ace. Saint Rose (7-3) stormed back into the set and led 15-9 before Queens answered with points on the serve of Green to get within one at 15-14. The Golden Knights then claimed four straight points with Hope Wulliger striking for a kill and Madison Gerace serving an ace to give the hosts a 19-14 edge. Queens came to within a four-point deficit thanks to a combined block from Hollis and Danielle Agbonifino, but Saint Rose went on to win the second set by scoring four straight points to hold QC at 25-17.

In the third set, the Knights trailed 12-6 before an attack error on Saint Rose and two kills from Agbonifino brought the visitors within three points at 12-9. Saint Rose extended the lead back to an 18-13 margin but Queens rallied back to tie the set at 18-all. A combined block from Green and Juengerkes led to a service run from the latter that saw two errors and kills by Green and Hollis to level the frame. The teams traded the next ten points to set up a 23-23 contest with Queens on the service line, but a solo block from the Golden Knights' Kyla Archie and an attack error on QC led to the match conclusion.

The Knights hit .225 in the third set with 15 kills in the frame in the team's best attacking performance of the season thus far. Shayna Webber posted a match-high 11 kills for Saint Rose.

Having concluded a long road trip to open the season, Queens will open up play at Fitzgerald Gymnasium on Tuesday (Sept. 18) with a 7 p.m. match against Concordia (N.Y.).
