Rob Twible '97, who has served as interim director of Athletics since February 2018, has been appointed Director of Athletics and Recreation. Rob brings over 20 years of collegiate administrative experience to the position. As director of Athletics he is responsible for the overall development and general management of the college's intercollegiate athletic programs and its NCAA Division II membership.
"I am incredibly honored to continue leading and could not have been in this position without the support of the university's leadership, our dedicated coaches, and staff," said Rob. "There are challenges ahead and much uncertainty in this pandemic, but I believe that anything is possible if we all work together. I look forward to working closely with our student-athletes, coaches, staff, and college constituents to position our student-athletes for success in the classroom, community, and within their sport."
Under Rob's leadership Queens College has undergone a number of significant facility upgrades that have continued to generate revenue for the department. Improvements to FitzGerald Gymnasium include a major roof overhaul, modernized lighting, renovations to all locker rooms, the addition of varsity locker rooms, upgrades to the aquatic facilities, and a new software platform for the successful summer camp program. Future projects being spearheaded by Rob include a renovation of the college's outdoor track and the replacement of the grass fields with modern turf soccer pitches. To date he has overseen over ten million dollars worth of athletic facility upgrades.
"I am absolutely thrilled that Rob has agreed to accept the AD role without the 'interim' prefix. Rob's tireless work to improve not only the athletic facilities, but more importantly the overall experience of Queens College students and student-athletes over the last two-and-a-half years, speaks volumes as to why I asked him to remain in this role." Said Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Adam Rockman.
During Rob's two and half years leading the Athletics Department the Knights have captured three East Coast Conference championships, with three programs returning to conference postseason action and participating in national postseason competition. During the 2019-20 academic year the Knights student-athletes earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.13, with 23 student-athletes earning a perfect 4.0 GPA. In the Spring 2020 semester 11 teams boasted a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. In total, 122 Knights finished the Spring 2020 semester with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
He currently resides in East Meadow, N.Y. with his wife Kathleen---herself a graduate of QC from the Class of 1995 and a former basketball player---along with their two children, Robert and Allison.
